Girl in chair with surprising bright red back

PINK/RED. A curious 1/6 plate daguerreotype in a scalloped mat. The girl faces resolutely forward, with her arms across the bottom of the plate, her ring gilded. Her bow is tinted pink. The elaborate chair is as much a presence in the image as the girl herself, and what "makes" the image is that shocking bright red of the cloth backing of the chair poking through with rich color. This is one of those magical daguerreotypes that changes color at every angle, from warm to cool, and different angles bring out the texture of the material of her dress. Still sealed, in a case with floral design, renewed spine. [3+]
