He's seated in a chair with an unusually elaborate back. The decorative tall knobs echo his cane. He's positioned within the octagonal mat so his hand fits into the corner. This is a brilliant clear ½ plate with a light wispy brush-like scrape in the upper left. In an early geometric case attributed to Plumbe (Berg 5 – 110), with separated cover and one missing rail.
