POST MORTEM BY FONTAYNE & PORTER, CINCINNATI. Many daguerreotypes preserve images of those who died early in this period. Others, as here, preserve the last images of those who survived to an older age. This older woman lies before a dark curtain, perhaps a setting ready-made for portraits of the deceased. 1/6 plate daguerreotype in a stippled octagonal mat. Small scratch at top. Nice logo with eagle for this great firm, in a fine case with floral design, intact spine. [D3+]
