Condition/Details: Bound in maroon cloth with bright gilt embossing, this antique book is a scarce compendium of life-histories of familiar American birds, told from the perspective of the birds themselves. The work is illustrated with many photographs taken by the author, as well as ten wash drawings and ten full-color plates by Sutton. The book is signed by Allen (the "acknowledged dean of American ornithology") and Sutton on the title page. The prelim is partly separated. The volume shows mild external wear, and is solidly bound with clean, lightly age toned pages. The book includes a newspaper clipping of his 1964 obituary.
