THADDEUS KOSCIUSZKO (1746 - 1817) Polish military officer and American Revolution brigadier general, he constructed the defenses of West Point, headed transportation during Greene's retreat, and was a founder of the Society of the Cincinnati. Rare and fine content A.L.S. "T. Kosciuszko" 1p. 8vo., [n.p., n.d.] in French to an unnamed female artist who has sent him a portrait of himself. He writes in full: "Mademoiselle! Reading your observations full of good judgement and knowledge I admit that I was surprised to find my portrait so embellished through your kindness that not a single trait does resemble me. I can add with certainty that no reader in admiring your work will stop to tax you as being very partial to your friends. Please receive my very respectful homage and sincere thanks for sending me your work. T. Kosciuszko." Very light folds and wrinkles, otherwise fine condition.
