14. GUY CARLETON (1724 - 1808) British General and Governor of Canada. Served as Commander-in-Chief of British forces in America toward the end of the American Revolution. Good content D.S. "Dorchester", 4pp. legal folio, Quebec, June 9, 1789, in which Carleton and his wife (who also signs as "Maria Dorchester") appoint attorney Alexander Adair of London to legally represent them in affairs concerning them, particularly sums due them according to: "...an Act for settling and securing a certain Annuity for the use of Lady Maria Carleton...and Guy Carleton, and Thomas Carleton, sons of the said Sir Sir Guy Carleton, in consideration of the emminent services performed by him to His Majesty and this Country..." Lightly toned areas, otherwise boldly signed and very good. $400-600
