54. (BATTLE OF SARATOGA) Fine content D.S. 1p. measuring 16" x 4 1/2", "Camp, above Stillwater", Sept. 29, 1777, listing "A Return of Ordinance Stores" for Gates' army ten days after the Battle of Freeman's Farm. The list includes a count of well over 100,000 musket cartridges, as well as hundreds of cartridges, case shot, grape shot for the army's nine, six, four, and three pound guns. Also included is four kegs of flints, ball, powder, "Drag ropes", "Tubes" and much more. Signed "Benjn. Bartlett Conductor". Bartlett served under the independent artillery regiment under Major Stephens. A revealing glimpse into the progress of the American Army's reinforcement efforts after Freeman's Farm which essentially sealed Burgoyne's fate. Usual folds, a few tears affecting a few words, otherwise very good condition. $600-800
