76. TURNER ASHBY (1828 - 1862) Confederate brigadier general of cavalry in the Shenendoah, under the command of Stonewall Jackson. Killed leading an infantry charge at Harrisonburg, Va. while exhorting his men to follow. Scarce war-date partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p., likely Virginia], Mar. 31, 1862, a requisition for corn, oats and hay which Ashby certifies as complete and correct. A bit of dampstaining at left margin barely detracts, else very good. $600-800
