77. CULLEN A. BATTLE (1829 - 1905) Confederate major general who organized the Tuskegee Light Infantry, fought with distinction at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and especially at Gettysburg on the first day of the battle. Rare, war-related D.S. "Approved C.A. Battle Lt. Col. Comm'dg", 1p. legal folio, Feb. 22, 1861, a statement from officer C.R. Hansford for $105 expended by him for board and lodging of 55 members of the Tuskegee Light Infantry for one day, needed: "...as they was not furnished with tents or cooking utensils...", boldly endorsed by Battle.
