BROWN (1827 - 1889) Confederate major general captured at Fort Donelson, exchanged and led forces at Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Franklin where he was severely wounded and his command decimated. Rare war-date A.E.S. "Approved John C. Brown Col. 3rd. reg.", on a partly-printed document, 1p. 4to., Bowling Green, Ky., Dec. 1, 1861, a discharge granted to one John H. Hazel serving with the 3rd Tn. Vols., discharged for medical reasons. Endorsement is penned across the document. Fine. $800-1,000
