84. JOHN L. BURNS (1789-1872) Gettysburg shoemaker who, upon seeing Union soldiers marching past his home to battle, seized his old musket and joined the Iron Brigade. His bravery and resulting three wounds made him a national hero. A nice carte-de-visite photograph of a seated Burns, signed on the verso "John L. Burns Gettysburg Aug 7th". Light soiling, a few dings to extreme edges, otherwise very good condition.$700-900
