Lot 108
KELLY, JOHN H.
108. JOHN H. KELLY (1840-1864) Confederate brigadier general, the youngest to be appointed to that rank, promoted for gallantry at Shiloh, led a brigade at Chickamauga, mortally wounded at Franklin. Excessively rare war-date signature cut from a document: "J.H. Kelly" as Colonel. Very light but legible, estimated accordingly. Kelly's is arguably the rarest Civil War signature.$1,500-2,000
