Lot 112
LEE, ROBERT E.
Sign In to see what this sold for
112. ROBERT E. LEE (1807 - 1870) Confederate General and commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, arguably the most brilliant commander of field armies in American history. Rare war-date A.D.S. signed "R. E. Lee" in the text, a manuscript check, 1p. oblong 8vo., reading in full: "No. 10 Richmond 13 July 1861 Farmers Bank of Virginia at Richmond Pay to R E Lee Two hundred 00/100 $200". A vandal has removed Lee's signature which explains a rectangular excision at lower-right, yet the document is complete in itself. Triple-matted with what appears to be a CDV showing Lee in uniform, all set into a gilt frame. Near fine.$2,500-3,500
