118. THOMAS F. MEAGHER (1823-1867) Irish-born Union brigadier general who commanded his Irish Brigade at Antietam, Frederickburg and Chancellorsville where his brigade was decimated. Rare war-date A.L.S. signed "Genl. Meagher" in the text, 1p. 8vo., New York, New York, June 12, 1863 to an admirer. In full: "Genl. Meagher feels much pleasure in complying with the request which Miss Harris did him the honor to convey to him, but regrets that neither ink nor pen were such as to enable him to send her his autograph as perfectly as her worth deserves." Light offestting at bottom, else very good. $400-600
