123. ALEXANDER "SANDIE" PENDLETON (1840-1864) Stonewall Jackson's youngest staff member. It is widely believed that Jackson loved him like a son. Pendleton lost his life a few days short of his 24th birthday while trying to rally the troops at Fisher's Hill. A very scarce nine line war-date A.E.S, January 19, 1864, reading in full: "Private McCown re-enlisted under act of Congress & has never received Transportation home and back or commutation therefore, to which he is entitled by law. A.S. Pendleton, Lt. Col. & a.a.g..." Some foxing and soiling, as well as minor ink smudging by Pendleton, none of which significantly affects the readability or overall impact of the piece, which is in very good condition. $600-800
