169. (BLACK TROOP MUSTER ROLL) An outstanding partly-printed 2pp. large folio muster roll for Co. M, 10th United States Colored Heavy Artillery, Fort Macomb, La., Feb 28, 1866, signed by Captain Henry K. Bricker. The document covers a period from Dec. 31, 1865 to Feb. 28, 1866, and lists 90 men of the company detailing their whereabouts if not with the regiment. Some of the men are serving prison time for various infractions. The company's arms and clothing is reported: "Good". No doubt all the men of Bricker's company were ex-slaves since this unit was first organized in the New Orleans region as the 1st Corps de Afrique, and interestingly Bricker lists himself as having a servant by the name of Charles Wilson. The 10th U.S.C. Hvy. Art. performed all its duty in Louisiana and was discharged in 1866. A rare document. Some fold splits with some spotting and stains, else very good. $150-200
