173. (BURYING DEAD CONFEDERATES) Most unusual A.D.S. on official CSA form, 1p. legal folio, Atlanta, Mar. 1, 1864, a bill submitted by one H. Witter charging the Confederate government for slave labor supplied: "For furnishing burial for the following name Confederate soldiers". Witter then lists 13 soldiers by name and states their company (includes two Union prisoners!), and also includes four days of his slaves' labor on fortifications. This is the first such document we have seen - most unusual! Near fine. $400-600
