175. (EDWARD EVERETT) A rare piece, a 5" x 2 3/4" ticket to hear Edward Everett's noted address supporting the re-election of Lincoln in 1864: "The Origin and Character of the War" held at the New York Academy of Music on Jan 7, 1864. On the verso, in blue ink, the ticket is issued specifically to Thaddeus V. Taber who is to enter "At the Stage Entrance, 14th. St., near 3d. Ave." Interestingly his name is printed among eleven others on the recto of the ticket. Because of nature of the address in which Everett not only advocated the re-election of Lincoln, but also attacked those "Copperheads responsible for the Draft Riots", security was very tight. The ticket was made specifically for Mr. Taber and is marked "Not Transferable". Very light soiling, otherwise very good condition. No examples of this ticket have been found at the New York Historical Society, National Archives, The Library of Congress or Harvard's divinity collection.$400-600
