179. (UNION PRISONERS AT ANDERSONVILLE) Excessively rare gallery card with albumen photograph, 5 1/2" x 4 1/2" sepia likely by Confederate photographer A.J. Riddle showing dozens of makeshift tents and Union prisoners at the infamous Confederate prison, Camp Sumter (Andersonville), Georgia, with the "death-line" clearly visible at right. A hand-written caption at bottom reads "Camp Sumter" with a similar note on verso reading: "Union Prisoners of War at Andersonville, Ga., N.E. View from Stockade Photographed Aug. 17th 1864" with what appears to be two sets of initials added beneath. Some light glue staining at upper-center, else good to very good. $1,500-2,000
