215. (EARLY 20TH CENTURY KLU KLUX KLAN COLLECTION) An intriguing group of nine items related to the recruitment of a loyal Ku Klux Klan member. (1): a small 96pp. book measuring 4" square, entitled: "Constitution and Laws of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan", published at Atlanta, Ga., 1921. The cover show two fully robed klansmen on horseback, and are stained. (2): a 8pp. fold out booklet measuring 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" entitled: "ABC of the Invisible Empire. Knights of the Ku Klux Klan". Printed by the Ku Klux Klan Press, Atlanta, 1917. Contents include proclamations such as: "The Ku Klux Klan who-why-what-yesterday, today, and forever...A America First...First in the galaxy of nations...B Benevolence...to right the wrong; to succor the weak and unfortunate...C Clanishness...to shield and enhance each other's happiness and welfare...". Light wear. (3): a 72pp. information and song booklet measuring 7" x 4", entitled: "KKK Katechism and Song Book", published by the Patriot Publishing Co., Columbus, Oh., 1924 which is dedicated to Imperial Wizard Dr. Hiram W. Evans. This book boasts that it will counter many "pertinent questions" with "pointed answers", and that "information is ammunition". Interestingly, there are various items, related to the KKK, listed for sale in the rear of this booklet while Patriot Publishing advertises the sale of three books, one of which is: "The Trial of the Pope" and claims it is, "For...boiled down interest...its historical value is without a rival...it reads red hot...to every true blooded, up-to-date American citizen...". (4) 31pp. song book measuring 5 3/4" x 3", entitled: "Song Book for Women of the Ku Klux Klan", published by MacVay Printing Co., Pittsburgh, ca. 1920. Contents include both religious and patriotic songs. Wear. (5) a TLS 1p. 4to., from Imperial Representative "G.W. Price", on printed, illustrated KKK letter sheet, Los Angeles, Ca., Feb. 23, 1924 concerning the recruitment of new members, and the payment of dues. (6) a small printed 1p. 6" x 4 ü" Klan meeting handout, Victorville, [ca. 1920], entitled: "Big Meeting Ku Klux Klan, Tuesday Night! Patriotic Lecture. Why the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan...". Chillingly it reads, in part: "...bring the whole family to...the Lighted Cross, South End of C Street." Some toning. (7) a printed 1p. 6" x 4" double-sided song card, entitled: "Klode Card". Lyrics read, in part: "...we meet with cordial greetings. In this our sacred cave...klansmen we'll live and die...in unison we'll labor...to shield a Klansman's welfare...name and home...". Minor toning. (8) a small printed, 1p. 5 1/4" x 2 3/4", information card for mailing information on the KKK to prospective applicants. (9) a 1p. 9 1/4" x 3 ü" printed robe size information form, ca. 1920, blank. An eerie archive of items that shows the narrow sighted views of the then newly reestablished KKK. Usual wear from use, overall very good.$500-700
