Sign In to see what this sold for

220. GEORGE WASHINGTON A.D.S. signed in full in the text, 1p. oblong 8vo., [Mount Vernon], Dec. 23, 1774, in full: "Then received from George Washington the curr't sum of One hundred pounds in part payment for Wheat sold him by [signed] Thomas Triplett". Light show-through at bottom from docket on verso, else very good. In 1774 Washington and fellow burgess George Mason protested British actions in Massachusetts--labeled "Intolerable Acts"--which had been passed in retaliation for the Boston Tea Party of1773. The Washington-Mason resolutions urged a boycott of British goods and called for creating what became the First Continental Congress, which met the same year in Philadelphia. $6,000-8,000
