556A. ROKY ERICKSON Cult hero and front-man for seminal 60s garage group The Thirteenth Floor Elevators whose psychedelic anthem You're Gonna Miss Me charted as a hit single in 1966. The subject of a forthcoming motion picture starring Jack Black, Erickson's eccentric antics and mammoth LSD use resulted in institutionalization and extensive electroshock treatment. An attractive set of signed announcements for concert dates at Mabuhay Gardens, the historic late 70s San Francisco punk rock venue paralleling New York's CBGB. Includes one tabloid sized poster measuring 10 1/2" x 16 1/2" depicting a circular woodblock design in dark purple ink, showing smiling demons surrounded by fanciful batik-style lettering which reads "Roky Erickson and The Aliens, Thursday & Friday April 6th & 7th". Signed "Roky Erickson" along the upper right margin in black marker. Accompanied by a handbill measuring roughly 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" with an identical design on light turquoise paper, signed similarly along left margin. Erickson and The Aliens released one album in 1980, likely the same year of the announcements. Erickson's later avant garde songwriting and stage shows doubtlessly stemmed from the fact that he claimed aliens were inhabiting his body following his release from the asylum in 1973.
