561. PATRICK F. GARRETT (1850-1908) American frontier lawman who tracked down and killed Billy the Kid, he later organized the LS Pat Garrett Rangers to put down cattle rustling in the Texas Panhandle. Scarce A.L.S. "P.F. Garrett" on a real estate letterhead, 1p. 4to., El Paso, July 24, 1907 in pencil to his wife. In part: "...I am going to Santa Fe to the governor's inauguration and want you to send me by bearer my dress suit and Prince Albert coat. I saw Gov. Curry yesterday and he is alright. He will do anything he can for me. He wants me to go to Washington just after he is sworn in. I am going to try hard to do something and feel very much encouraged..." Folds, otherwise very good. George Curry was appointed Governor of New Mexico by Theodore Roosevelt and Garrett hoped that Curry might appoint him superintendent of the territorial prison in Santa Fe. Garrett never received the position, and soon shacked-up with a prostitute and resumed drinking.$2,000-3,000
