575. MARCUS GARVEY (1887 - 1940) Jamaican black-nationalist leader who sought to obtain dignity and civil rights for blacks by preaching racial pride and self-sufficiency. Scarce partly-printed D.S. 1p. oblong 4to., [n.p.], July 29, 1924, a certificate issued to Ben Harrison, certifying that he has contributed ten dollars toward the African Redemption Fund "... for the Liberation of Africa, and for use in the higher development of the Negro Race... ". Boldly signed by Garvey at bottom, and by two other unidentified individuals. Light wrinkling, else very good. $500-600
