A Famille-Rose Celadon-Ground Dishes, 'An Ju Le Ye',
Qianlong six-character seal mark and of the period (1735-1795)
The dish is potted into overall celason-glaze and painted in famille-rose with quails amongst blossoming peonies beside rockwork, and bats flying above. This is a very typical Chinese expression of happiness in life with quail and chrysanthemum bring safety and prosperity, bats means happiness. Provenance: Compare a similar item that was sold at Christie's London, 9 November 2011, London, South Kensington, lot 471. Diameter: 6 1/2in (16.5cm)
