Civil War Union Documents
"Enemy Ship" Union Naval Procedures
May 11, 1865, Navy Department General Order No. 54, Post-Civil War on Sea Communication, Mint.
7.25" x 5.5", 4 pages. Issued out to the Navy by the Secretary of the Navy, Gideon Welles, he states that the following Proclamation and Executive Order are "published for the information of officers of the Navy". The Proclamation is written by the President of the United States, at the time Andrew Johnson, on the topic of States that had been posed as a threat to the US prior to the Civil War, and how now to deal with said states if they approach the Navy in a dangerous manor. He stated that "all naval, military, and civil officers... to arrest said cruisers, and to bring them into a port of the United States, in order that they may be prevented from committing further depredations on commerce." A document that attempts to put a rest to the Civil War hatred, and reunify the United States. A lovely addition for any Civil War or Navy enthusiast.
