ZEPHANIAH PLATT, Continental Congressman and Founder of Plattsburg, NY, Fine.
Manuscript Document Signed, "Zepha[niah]. Platt," in brown ink, twice (once in the text), as Judge of the Superior Court of "Dutchess County", NY, March 29, 1779, 20" x 15.25", Choice Very Fine. This document conveys land from Jonathan and Margaret Langdon to a John Kent: "land, mills, edifices, and buildings wherein the said [Jonathan] Langdon now lives and is part of of lot which by the General Division of the grate [sic] Nine Partners is distinguished by the name of lott no. 20..." This document is also signed by Henry Livingston (1714-99) as clerk of Dutchess County, as well as witnesses Isaac Haight, Moses Haight, and John Hanson. Large, impressive sheet, with light dampstaining along the folds, minor absences and some ink smudges, but overall is very clear and legible text. Docketed on the back by Jonathan Langdon, Platt, and Livingston.
Zephaniah Platt (1740-1807) was Continental Congressman and founder of Plattsburg, NY. He was also a judge of the Superior Court of Duchess County from 1784-86.
Henry Livingston was a grandson of Robert Livingston, first Lord of Livingston Manor; his sons fought in the American Revolution, and one son, Gilbert, was a member of the 1775 Provisional Congress in New York.
