1756 Colonial Pay Order for Killed Foxes
March 16, 1756, Pay Order for Foxes Killed, Sandwich, MA, Fine.
To Silas Brown, "Town Treasurer Or his Succesor" an order to pay to "John Freeman" twelve shillings "which Is for Six foxes killed within our Town and Brought to One of the Select Men... and Their Ears Cut Off." Document measures 3.25" x 7.5", and was signed by Selectmen Sam.ll Tupper and Thos. Smith. A bounty was paid to citizens who killed foxes, which were probably making off with chickens, etc. Light toning, heavier on left side.
