American Revolution
"Monument To The Memory Of Capt. Nathan Hale"
1838, Printed Congressional Document, "Monument To The Memory Of Capt. Nathan Hale. To Accompany Joint Resolution No. 25. June 27, 1838," Choice Extremely Fine.
This original document is from the 25th Congress, 2d Session (1838), House of Representatives Report No. 989. This monograph is complete in 4 pages, measuring 8.75" x 5.5," having been removed from a bound volume of House Documents. This report was written by a Mr. Holt, who was a member of the committee to consider petitions for a monument to Nathan Hale, and was printed by Thomas Allen. There are a few trivial toning spots, mostly in the page margins, otherwise these pages are almost like new and the paper remains quite crisp. "The committee, in view of these sufferings and services in the war of the Revolution by one who, at the gallows to which he had been carried by his boundless patriotism, 'regretted that he had but one life to lose for his country,' are of the opinion that they are such as demand the remembrance and should receive the gratitude of the nation..." A wonderful, and very rare document, for which we find no other auction or sale records.
