Inoculations to Stop the Spread of Smallpox!

April 1779, THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, England, Very Fine.
8" x 5", two-column layout, pp. 161-216, "By Sylvanus Urban, Printed for D. Henry, at St. John's Gate." Disbound, lacking covers, slight toning to pages, some minor chipping to one page edge. Also: missing map of St. Lucia, West Indies. A Revolutionary War era issue with a wide variety of news and perspectives. An interesting woodcut variation on the title page, featuring a man walking his dog, a carriage, and pedestrians in a courtyard between large brick or stone walls. First page is offprint--cutting off the right edge page numbers. Contents include a letter to Urban about portraits of Mary Queen of Scots; Parliamentary debates; naval and military transactions in the West Indies; the trial of Admiral Keppel; and a discussion of the benefits of "general inoculation" to reduce the threat of smallpox!
