This undated original pen and ink portrait features John Paul Jones in his naval uniform. It measures 7" by 5.5" and is matted and framed to 10.5" x 9". The caption reads: "Drawn by G. Samuels After C.W. Peale" [Charles Willson Peale]. The hand-inked portrait has been touched up with white paint to correct some of the detailed lines, but is generally sharp and expertly crafted. This original drawing was most likely produced in the mid to late 1800s by a folk artist who admired the historic paintings and etchings of Peale and similar artists.
