1782 Four Revolutionary War Receipts for Transporting of Salt to Norwich, CT, Possibly for Gunpowder, Lot of 4, Choice Very Fine.
Manuscript Documents on fine-laid paper, ranging in size from 2.75" x 6.75" to 5" x 6.5", all from 1782, describing the transport of salt from Groton to a mill in Norwich, CT, for the state of Connecticut. All of the receipts were written by Capt. Jabez Perkins, who was most likely responsible for providing this essential ingredient for the creation of salt peter and gunpowder for the Continental Army! An example of the receipts' contents follows:
"Jabez Perkins to Asa Driscoll... To freight of twenty four bushells of 3/4 Salt from Groton to Norwich belonging to the State of Connecticut... Norwich April 15th, 1782 - Rec'd the above in full - Asa Driscol." All are docketed on the back; all are clean, crisp and legible. (4 items)
