George Washington after the Painting by Gilbert Stuart

1790, George Washington Framed Print after the painting by Gilbert Stuart, Engraved by C.P. Harrison, South Carolina, Very Fine.
This oval, uncolored engraving measuring 3" x 2.5", of the stern President Washington, placed in an oval wooden frame with black metal covering, for the overall size of 5.25" x 4.75". Engraved by C.P. Harrison in South Carolina, done after the print by G. Stuart. Sharp, crisp print, somewhat faint caption. Gilbert Stuart was the preeminent portraitist in early America. He combined a talent for recording likeness with an ability to interpret a sitter's personality of character in the choice of pose, color, style of clothing, and setting. This is an original period print after Stuart's famous portrait, therefore, it was done during Washington's lifetime. Age-toned with fading, still in good condition for the time period. A wonderful engraving of the first President of the Untied States.
