Extremely Rare George Washington Portrait Cast Trivet
c. 1820 Early 19th Century, "George Washington Medallic Portrait," Cast Iron Metal Trivet, Choice Very Fine.
This is an original, Period, cast iron trivet, with a spectacular medallic Portrait of George Washington at center. Not only is the George Washington Medallic Portrait in high relief and very impressive, it is overall one of the best trivets for color, casting and detail you will see of the era, right down to having a round sprue original pour marking on the back. This trivet measures 9" x 4" and has a natural, untouched old patina. Dating this piece we note that the early 19th century (1800's period) examples are heavy and thick and as the decades passed they became lighter in weight. This example is a heavy, early trivet and it remains in Museum display quality. A remarkable find, which is difficult to value as it is quite unique, the first example we have seen and/or offered.
