Scarce Four Pound 1777 Note - The Highest Denomination
Pennsylvania. April 10, 1777. Four Pounds. Red & Black Printed Text. PCGS graded Apparent Very Fine-30.
This is a well centered example of the colorful Red and Black printed text design type. The details are sharp, the holder mentions splits repaired and mounting remnants on the back, as so noted on its holder. Those appear to have been placed as reinforcements to the watermark areas by a collector, long ago. Both signatures are present, written in red and brown ink. This scarce denomination is missing from most collections. It was printed by John Dunlap of Philadelphia, who made the first Broadside printed edition of the Declaration of Independence. One those copies has sold for over $8,000,000.
