A 8 x10" black and white by Cecil Stoughton, an official White House Photographer from the Kennedy Presidential years (1961-1963), taken on May 5, 1961, depicting President Kennedy, Mrs. Kennedy, Vice President Johnson, Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., Robert Kennedy and others watching Alan Shepard's splash down from the American manned mission into Space, which made him the first American in space. Along with a black and white photograph (4 1/2 x 6 1/2") of Shepard being lifted up from his capsule into a helicopter. The JFK photograph in this ensemble also reproduces JFK's inscription, "For Cecil Stoughton/with warm regards/John F. Kennedy." Double matted, framed under glass. Overall size: 20 x 26" With a typed certification (4 x 5") signed by Stoughton, describing the B&W photo of JFK watching flight recovery of First American Astronaut Alan B.
