Chinese garotte used by Harry Houdini. The Chinese garotte or choker consists of a large metal contraption--part corkscrew, part medical clamp.The garotte was used by the Chinese at the turn of the century for stangling. It can be tightened one notch at a time for a slow and agonizing death. Houdini escaped from the choker by using a simple button hook. Formerly in the Houdini Historical Center. Together with a black and white photograph of Houdini bound in shackles and letter of authenticity from Sidney Radner.
