An engraved chrominium torch carried by a Greek runner in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The torch was formerly in the collection of the runner's family in Athens. Engraved with the German eagle clutching the Olympic rings in its talons (a symbol of Hitler's ambition to dominate the world of sport). Inscribed below are the words "Fackel-Staffel-Lauf / Olympia-Berlin." Also inscribed is the route, from Greece to Rome, followed by the runners. Sale History: Bonhams & Butterfields, May 2005
