Description:Gerald R. Ford, 38th president of the United States. Typed letter signed, dated April 1, 1968 during his term as a Congressman for Michigan's Fifth District. Ford writes to a constituent on United States Congress stationary regarding a the responsibility of parents for their children. Ford Writes, "Under the general principles of our common law, a man is responsible for his own actions. . . Generally, I favor the common law rule but would hope that in any given set of circumstances parents would be willing to assume responsibility if their youngsters have done damage to a neighbor's property or a community building of facility." Ford signs in his hand "Jerry Ford."
