Description:Historic newspaper. The Portage County Democrat, April 19, 1865 issue, Ravenna, Ohio. The second page of this paper has a large article entitled: "Assassination of President Lincoln! Sec'y Seward also Assassinated!!" The article begins: "The President was shot in the theatre tonight, and mortally wounded...President Lincoln and wife, with other friends, this evening visited Ford's Theatre for the purpose of witnessing the performance of the American Cousin...During the 3rd act, and while there was a temporary pause for one of the actors to enter, a sharp report of a pistol was heard..." Page two and three both have a rare black border around the articles. Some wear and minor separation at folds.
