Subtitle: Description:16th President, assassinated at the close of the Civil War . Document Signed, 1 page, 8 x 7.5", dated May 9, 1854. Legal document concerning the case between two parties of three gentlemen. In part, 'I do hereby enter myself into security for the cash in this case and acknowledge myself bound to pay or cause to be paid all costs which may accrue as this action either to the opposite party or to any of the officers of this court in pursuance of the laws of the United States or the rules of the court.' Boldly signed at the bottom, "A. Lincoln" . At this point in his career, Lincoln had already served in Congress, and was one of the most prominent lawyers in the state. He had declined an appointment to the position of Governor of the Oregon Territory in 1849, and turned to his law practice at this point in his career. Usual folds, in very good condition.
