Subtitle: Additional Information: on Petersburg..Sharp-Shooting & Mortar Shelling.. Description:Civil War Confederate Correspondence, from a Tennessee solder Handwritten Autograph Letter Signed, Lt. E.W. Jones, Co. B, 59th Alabama Regt. Gracirs Brigade, 2pp. folio, August 17, 1864, Petersburg, Virginia. In part: '...The enemy is still seizing this place & how much longer they intend seiging Petersburg I am not able to say. I sometimes think they are going to put up winter quarters in front of Petersburg. I hope they will not. I am getting mighty tired of this place. I have been in the ditches for the last two months & how much longer we will have to stay here, I am not able to say. Everything is quiet in our front except the usual amount of Sharp-Shooting & Mortar Shelling which takes place during the day. I have this far been very fortunate. I have not got a fight yet, though I don't know how long it may be my call to receive a wound or killed yet...I Rec'd one [a letter] from father not very long ago stating he was tolerantly well. He seemed to be very much grieved about Morgan [captured at Resaca, Georgia]. I was very much grieved to hear of his fate...I have been looking for a letter from you...for some time...I thought...it was not your fault that I did not get any letters from you...Recon it must be some disrayment in the mail caused by the Recent Raiders through our Country...' Great war content from a Confederates. Confederate war letters are far scarcer than Union letters. Ink is faded on second half of page, at times hard to read, singnificant folds. ![]() page for more information about Autographs our Guarantee and Our Company.
