Description:Historic Civil War newspaper . The New York Times, October 7, 1864 issue, New York, NY. The first front-page story is on a clash between rebel forces and Sherman's garrison at Allatoona. In part: "At 6 o'clock yesterday morning the enemy attacked with artillery and infantry ... every move of the enemy was handsomely repulsed with severe loss to the rebels... leaving their dead and 400 to 600 wounded in our possession..." Front page is war-related. Slight wear, small tears and stains around the edges. In very good condition.
