Description:Civil War general. Handwritten Autograph Letter Signed, dated March 1, 1855, 8 x 9", Washington City. In part "..Permit me to nominate as a Candidate for Midshipman in the Naval Academy at Anappolis, Maryland , Benjamin Wickliff Bristow...as an actual resident in my district.." Signed boldly in ink, "Rich Yates". Slight water damage on letter but otherwise in good condition.
