George E. Haynes (VA, 1910 - 1995), Tug in Storm,
watercolor, signed lower left "Geo E Haynes", typewritten note with painting states in part, "tug struggles to regain control of tow on elizabeth river off high street portsmouth during ash wednesday storm march 1962...," matted in turquoise wooden frame. The artist, though employed by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, was a prolific painter and exhibited extensively in Virginia. Listed in the 1976 "Who's Who in American Art", Haynes belonged to the James River Art League, Tidewater Artists' Association and Portsmouth Artists' Guild. SS 14" x 20.25"; DOA 26.5" x 32.5"
