rare secular view of Indian family group with man cooking, woman nursing, central woman holding baby, man seated on a rock preparing to share food with two travelers (Spaniards), unsigned, oil on canvas, 18th century, 20-3/4 x 29 in.; stained wood frame. Original stretcher and tacking edge with rosehead nails, areas of overcleaning at guns, Spaniard and background left, retouch scattered throughout, mostly lower right corner where canvas deteriorated and later glued down, around figures and left edge, canvas loose, craquelure; frame with abrasions.
