each oak throughout with Renaissance style relief carved back panels, linen fold side and front panels, hinged plank seats opening to open interiors, probably French, one possibly 16th/17th century with label on back "Chair, carved oak, French, Renaissance work circa 1500-1520…", the other a late 19th century copy, 70-1/2 x 30 x 21 in.; with two 19th century Gothic style steps, 5-1/2 x 23-1/2 x 14 in. Earlier example with patches to hand grips, later veneer panel on central lower panel, other scattered repairs and possible rebuilding, scattered pest damage; later example slightly loose with separated joints, minor damages to moldings. Provenance: Said to have been deaccessioned from a museum in Mexico City; Collection of a New Orleans Gentleman; said to have been deaccessioned from a museum in Mexico City.
