bronze pediment with Archimedes (187-212 B.C.) seated behind table with gargoyle mounts and clock below, implements on table including square and scroll marked "Un Point D'appui et je Suleverai Le Mond" (Give me a fulcrum and I shall move the world), polished slate base with scroll and paw mounts, with key and pendulum, French, 19th century, 17-1/2 x 22-3/4 x 8 in. Old mellow patinated surface with traces original gilding, one scroll mount off but present, glass back with small crack, other minor chips to slate base, wire replacement implement in hand. Provenance: Private Collection, Burgaw, North Carolina
