Steele, New York 1847", gouache, gum arabic and watercolor on paper, American, 19th century, 16-1/2 x 25-1/4 in.; modern stained wood frame with gilt liner. Some fading or fugitive color at seaweed top, light toning, laid down on paper for support, stabilizing areas of loss at right edge and corner (above watercolor), handling grime. Provenance: The Estate of the Late William L. Montague, Jr., Lookout Mountain, Tennessee
