(GENERAL DAVIDSON), Named on a Washington City Canal Lottery Ticket.
c. 1797, Washington City Canal Lottery, #1, Very Choice Crisp Extremely Fine+. A lovely, high quality ticket, sharply printed in black on clean laid paper. Issued “for cutting the CANAL, through the City of Washington, to the Eastern-Branch Harbour.” Signed on the blank verso in bold brown ink; “Bought of Genl. Davidson - February 15, 1797” which likely meant that this ticket and the General, were winners! Quite rare as such.
